In 2008, as a way for me to have an artistic outlet while our family was in Georgia for the summer, I started “Jada Love Photography”, (Jada an acronym for “Jared, Ashton, David and Ashley”). Dave was a security sytem installer and I was home with our two little boys, then 3 and 4 years old. I taught myself everything to know about photography, which then lead to learning how to build a blog through coding, followed by website and graphic design.
In 2010, after a rough patch in our marriage and subsequent healing, Dave joined up with me at weddings and we became David + Ashley Photo Co. Once I felt secure in my quality as a photographer, I began to really study business. As I studied business, I became obsessed with marketing. I studied everything I could get my hands on about target market, branding and social media.
For the last 5 years, this business has been my key focus, and really got us through some tough times financially as Dave faced physical health challenges. About a year ago, we felt strongly that we needed to homeschool the boys. I maintained the business and homeschooled while Dave took care of our little Pepper’s needs; Physical, occupational and speech therapy appointments, doctor visits and even medical procedures.
But in February of this year, he was finally able to work full time and landed a good job with a property management company which quickly blossomed into a pretty ideal career opportunity for him, and a huge blessing to our family. I took over full time care of our daughter as well as homeschooled the boys AND ran the business.
However, by April, I was REALLY struggling to juggle it all by myself. Our kids and home suffered greatly, I didn’t feel our clients weren’t getting the 100% they deserved and through all of the stress and anxiety, I had a breakdown. Something had to change. I tried delegating business tasks, getting a nanny and even taking on less work.
But it was always either my clients or my children suffering…and I had to rethink my priorities.
So, after much prayer and deliberation, we made the decision to phase out the business and close up shop. I am SO excited to be moving on to the next phase in my life and have so many wonderful things in store! A new blog/vlog is in the works and I’m also on my own educational path in conjunction with homeschooling our children. I will ALWAYS be creating, that will never cease. But my key focus right now is FAMILY. These babies will only be in our home for so long and I don’t want to miss this!!!
A MASSIVE thank you to all of our clients. Thank you to those who put their faith in us from the very start, and those who stuck with us until the very end. It is bittersweet to think we won’t get to hang out every year and see how much you’ve all changed, we truly enjoyed that! We’ve had the absolute honor of watching couples come together and then blossom into beautiful families. We love you all more than you know.
